If a person we are emailing opts-out, does that mean that we have to go into our database and take them out, or does it automatically not send them an email again? If an email recipient decides that they would not like to receive your emails anymore, he or she is going to "Opt-Out". This is done very quickly by clicking on the "Leave This List" link at the footer of (every) email you send. The CAN-SPAM law states that if a person opts-out of your email brand, you have 10 business days to fulfill that request. The difficulty of Opt-Out happens when you have multiple databases -- a database of people who subscribe to your email newsletter, a database of contacts in Outlook and a corporate sales database in ACT or whatever CRM application you use. That's why we recommend you use a single Sales database for all your contacts. It simplifes management of your contact data and it makes it easier to remove people when they request it. While you do not need remove the individuals from your sales database who have opted-out from your emails, it would be recommended to keep your database clean and efficient. |
